Pilot Telemetering and Demand Management System for electricity supplies of household and small consumers and smart grid implementation

The project concerns the installation of a telemetry centre and 170 000 electronic/smart meters for domestic and small consumers in the prefectures of Xanthi, Lesvos, Lefkada, Attica and Thessaloniki. The project will be implemented by HEDNO during the period 2017-2019. The aim of the project is to modernise the measurement infrastructure for consumers connected to both the Interconnected System and the Non-Interconnected Islands. The beneficiaries will have direct and detailed information on the profile of their electricity consumption that can lead them to energy saving interventions. At the same time, the process of switching electricity suppliers is greatly facilitated and accelerated, which is also expected to lead to increased competition in the activity of supplying electricity and in all the benefits for the final consumer and for the economy in general. The proposed project will also contribute in particular to the management of electricity demand as a consequence of the development of an appropriate pricing policy (e.g. multi-zonal tariffs, etc.) in order to reflect in a more representative way the cost of energy production/supply and that the tariffs offered are better adapted to the needs of consumers.
