The prehistoric settlement of Poliochni, on the eastern coast of Lemnos, was founded at the end of the Neolithic period and reached its greatest peak in the middle of the 3 rd millennium BC. Today it is considered the oldest city in Europe, with an early form of social and urban organisation, due to urban planning, public works and division of labour, which is demonstrated by the two monumental public buildings: the “Bulletium” and the “Sitehouse”. With the proposed works of the project, the monument will be upgraded and made readable and comprehensible to the general public. The infrastructure for disabled people will make the site accessible for the first time by people with disabilities. Educational programs, audio guided tours and supervisory material will help the exploitation of the space and its visibility to visitors. After the delivery of the project, the site will be accessible and open to the general public, and will be kept by permanent prison staff, which has been serving in the archaeological site of Poliochni for many years.
