The WWTP that serves the urban agglomeration Montijo-Puebla de La Calzada pours into the sensitive area "Albufeira Do Alqueva / Trunk Central Guadiana River. Due to the urban development of the area since its facilities have become obsolete, the existing WWTP does not reach Discharge parameters required by current regulations and in addition the capacity of collectors to the Cabrilla and Baldío streams is insufficient due to frequent spills of flood spills and uncontrolled spills._x000D_ It is intended to build a new WWTP close to the existing one and improve the sanitation of the agglomeration.
