Fog Computing-5G Infrastructure for Internet of Things Applications

The CAITI research institute has several research infrastructures that support the main research lines of the different subgroups that make up the center (cloud computing, big data, security, mobile communications, ...)._x000D_ The Internet of Things (IoT) is assuming a revolution that brings together many of the research activities of the different groups towards a common area that requires new infrastructures complementary to those already existing in the center._x000D_ Current cloud computing models are not designed for the volume, variety and speed of the data generated in IoT Moving the information generated by IoT devices to the cloud would require a huge bandwidth. On the other hand, the latency requirements imposed by the new type of applications derived from connecting these new types of devices (industrial control, autonomous driving, ...) do not make it possible to send the information to the cloud._x000D_ The research infrastructure that we request will allow us to experiment with new models, architectures and services based on fog computing and oriented to applications in which the requirements of real time, security, reliability and high availability make possible the use of IoT solutions in areas where currently, they are not feasible. In addition, the research infrastructure will also allow us to carry out more exhaustive studies of the security of the infrastructure itself.
