This project calls for the supply and installation of equipment for research in plant species, mainly horticultural and fruit trees, carried out by research groups of the University of Malaga (UMA). In particular, the supply and installation of (1) eight visitable chambers with a level 3 safety level is requested, which will allow the handling of genetically modified plants and (2) eight modules for the growth of high-bearing plants under controlled conditions. The plant growth facilities requested will serve to alleviate the shortfall in this type of infrastructure faced by the UMA research groups that use plant species as research models. The quality of the research groups, which support this proposal, is demonstrated by their capacity to obtain resources and by the number and quality of their scientific publications. The activity carried out by the UMA groups alone justifies the need to acquire this infrastructure, although it is important to indicate that these facilities will be part of the newly created Joint Institute between the UMA and the CSIC (Instituto de Hortofruticultura Subtropical y Mediterránea, IHSM).
