New model for standardisation of care processes

Clinical health management faces the challenge to raise the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of health services to a group of people with different problems and needs. Process management facilitates this task by providing an integrated and horizontal view of the health care activity. Clinical practice guidelines, clinical pathways or trajectories are some of the tools used, mainly, by nurses for the standardization of care processes. However, these types of resources are highly variable, and it is common to use them interchangeably to refer to a standardized record of nursing activity. _x000D_ In this context, the Multidisciplinary Standardization of Assistance Processes (EMPA) was developed in the Consorci Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí. EMPA allows the standardization of patient's care activity, attending to his or her biopsychosocial needs, integrating the activity of each and every one of the professionals involved in the process. Since 2008, the CCSPT has 25 EMPAs operating from different surgical procedures._x000D_ The cost-benefit analysis of EMPA has allowed us to assess its implementation in 3 targeted audiences/areas:_x000D_ - Patient, receiving multidisciplinary protocolized assistance, which increases their safety and empowerment during the recovery process and reduces the length of hospital stay. _x000D_ - Professional, facilitating clinical course monitoring, health care activity documentation, improving communication and time management, thus reducing delays and unjustified variability._x000D_ - Hospital, integrating innovative thinking into healthcare structures allowing an unprecedented sociocultural change in the hospital environment._x000D_ The proposal of this public procurement project will lead to the qualitative leap of the EMPA. Thus, the aim of the project is to provide the EMPA with innovative technology capable of integrating this work culture into the health system as a whole, being transferable to any health care process, whether acute or chronic. _x000D_ The market research has not offered us an appropriate technological solution aligned with the specifications of the EMPA. Therefore, this project becomes a scalable innovation for the health system as a whole._x000D_ The project considers 5 stages that go from the preparation and execution of the CPTI process to its implementation. Good leadership, project management and governance will guarantee its successful implementation.
