Adults from distant backgrounds usually have a low affinity with literature and books. This is particularly true when there are physical and/or mental disabilities, a fortiori when they correspond to deficits in social relations. Attempts to lead to the medium of book and to the — undisputedly necessary — processes of lifelong learning often fail because failures shape individual socialisation, not least because after school days there is generally no adequate educational motivation or even support. Parents and circles of friends usually have similar problems and little experience of their own use. The aim of the “Books Rescue” project is to take a completely different approach to the book: It is not primarily about literature, but first of all about the use of the book in its physical structure as a recyclable raw material (paper and cardboard as material). In an upcycling process, new things such as art objects and furniture, which can be seen as unique pieces of literature, are created by craft creative editing of unused books. Upcycling, i.e. the “new life for old things”, is fully trending under the apse of a sustainable use of raw materials and is currently being lived as a trend by young people.
