Leipzig University of Technology, Economics and Culture is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Saxony and is currently setting out in the target agreement with the State Ministry of Science and Arts the increase in academic success as an important target category for university development. This poses a particular challenge, as the student population and the degree programme offered by the HTWK Leipzig are characterised by a strong heterogeneity. In order to lay the foundation for successful studies already during the study orientation phase, the optimisation of the tailor-made and target-group-oriented study orientation is prioritised as a necessary measure to increase student success. With the development of the “Platform for online-based and competence-oriented choices of study programmes at the Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Kultur Leipzig”, the various prospective students are supported by a comprehensive, competence-oriented, target group-oriented presentation of the courses of study and at the same time they are given the opportunity to compare their own competences with the requirements profile of the respective degree programme. In order to increase the effectiveness of online-based services, presence workshops for prospective students and new students complement the offer to optimise the competence to choose a course of study and to reflect on the requirements of a study programme.
