The agglomeration community is setting up an online library, accessible to all audiences, and offering intuitive access to documentary resources and services. This online library is the immaterial translation of the implementation of a public reading network in the territory of the agglomeration, integrating the new regional multimedia library (BMVR) which will open its doors to the public in the fall of 2016.The Caen la mer public reading network has been formed since 2003 from a network of three libraries transferred to the community of Caen la mer agglomeration: Caen, Hérouville and Ifs. This network expanded at the same time as a public reading scheme was defined by the agglomeration community. Today, 10 out of 35 municipalities belonging to the agglomeration community participate in one of the actions initiated by the public reading network. One of the flagship projects is the establishment of a documentary network, bringing together certain municipalities agreed under the “computer support” around a common IT portal, the foundation of the online library. In 2015, a first step in the renovation of this computerised documentary network ended with the introduction of an integrated library system (IBS) on the professional and public sides by opening up to the public a new web-based documentary portal accessible to a generic address: http://bibliotheques.caenlamer.fr/Le project is based on two axes, aimed at providing all inhabitants of the territory with easy access to sometimes unknown resources, whether by setting up a digital library of regional interest or, on the other hand, by providing innovative tools, which multiply the intuitive keys to access collections and services. This was approved by the Ministry of Culture, which included the Caen la mer network in the national programme of the Digital Reference Libraries. A national label today recognises the quality of the services offered and the project as a whole. The project aims to ensure that the services offered are in line with developments in access to information practices and to increase the supply of digital services in the territory of Caen la mer.
