Founded in 1992, ENVIE NORD is an association law 1901 agreed by the DIRECCTE Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardie as an insertion structure. Specialised in the re-use and sale of used appliances, the ENVIE NORD network is based on 5 workshops (Amiens, Lesquin, Tourcoing, Saint-Omer and Raismes) and 8 stores (Amiens, Abbeville, Lille, Seclin, Tourcoing, Raismes, Dunkirk, Saint-Omer), for a total of 144 employees, 128 of whom are on an integration path and a budget of EUR 1,800000 in 2014. Nearly 8,000 refurbished appliances are sold annually to individual customers. Prices are 30-40 % lower than those charged by distributors for new appliances in order to give the largest number access to high-quality household appliances. Envie has been present in the North since 1992 and employs 150 employees each year. All come from the department of Nord/Pas de Calais/Picardie. In a particularly weak labour market, the rate of positive exits (CDI, CDD over 6 months, qualification training, etc.) is 58 %. The remaining 42 % did not fail because the 24 months spent within the association had enabled employees to improve their employability (solving housing, health, over-indebtedness, mobility, basic knowledge, justice, etc.); acquisition of know-how and know-being As a social enterprise, ENVIE Nord needs to be economically sound in order to be socially efficient. In other words, in order to pursue its social mission of supporting the employment of men and women in social and professional difficulties, the association must rely on a sustainable economic model that responds to changes in market trends, consumer needs and expectations and competitive practices.
