This unifying project is of strategic interest to industry, partnership research and upstream basic research. It will offer the opportunity to develop technical and instrumental skills of excellence in Region-Centre Val de Loire. It will be a privileged platform to initiate and develop new areas of innovation at the crossroads of the major sectors of activity supported by research and development around materials and products. The properties of interest go through the knowledge that one can have of atomic arrangements within the materials. The MET is this magnifying glass that allows us to “see and identify” the atom and its close neighbors, to know the organisation of the material, a crucial step in the design of materials optimised for tomorrow’s innovation and socio-economic or societal needs. Understanding morphological, structural and chemical organisation is a concern in matter sciences, life sciences, earth and environmental sciences, and engineering in general. It is one of the ways to optimise the properties of use and realise new technological developments in the many sectors of metrology, energy, the environment, micro/nano technologies, medicine, cosmetics...
