ICMN is a joint CNRS-University of Orleans research unit that works on many materials, carbons, silica, metal alloys, polymers and composites. The objects of study are very diverse and range from supported nanoparticle assemblies to porous solid materials to thin films. The surface very often plays an essential role in the properties of these objects and therefore knowledge of its chemical composition is a key element essential to the research and development of these materials or objects. The objective of the project is to acquire a new X-ray photoelectronic spectrometer (XPS) to determine and map the chemical composition of the material surface layer. ICMN has a long experience in this type of analysis since this type of equipment has been available in the laboratory for more than 30 years. The last 16-year-old equipment is obsolete and broken down. This equipment was the only equipment available in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This project therefore meets the expectations of many actors in the Centre-Val de Loire region, partnership or academic research, industry. Knowledge of the chemical composition of the surface layers of materials in material and engineering sciences, environmental and earth sciences is a necessary phase for the development of new materials for electronics, micro and nanotechnologi
