As part of the process of regaining the quality of water collected by the Garrigues bass and Bérange boreholes, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and the Syndicat Mixte Garrigues Campagne (SMGC) are implementing an action programme, at the level of the catchment area (AAFC). This area covers 25 km² and intercepts the communes of Montaud, Saint-Drézéry, Sussargues, Saint-Génies des Mourgues, Restinclières and Beaulieu. This programme provides for actions to reduce polluting pressures linked to the use of plant protection products in agricultural and non-agricultural areas (public and private areas). The tool that can be mobilised to support communities in this process is the Plan for the Improvement of Phytosanitary and Horticoles Practices (PAPPH). It is a decision-support tool developed by a specialised design office, based on a comprehensive diagnosis of public space management practices, and leading to recommendations tailored to each community. The aim of this plan is to phase out the use of pesticides in public spaces, to optimise the inputs of fertilisers and to reduce the volumes of water used for watering green areas. Four of the six municipalities involved have partnered with the metropolis to conduct a PAPPH on their public spaces.
