The Department of Aude has developed a departmental plan for land use planning and sustainable development, called “Aude 2030”, which sets the development goals, including renewable energy, in the territory by 2030. Due to its desire to be a driving force in the industry, the Department established a Wood Energy Plan in 2006 to support the implementation of collective wood boilers and storage platforms. With forests accounting for about 30 % of the department’s surface, biomass has a high potential for development. The Collège Les Fontanilles in Castelnaudary will be the subject of a complete reconstruction operation spread over 4 years.
