Renovation of the André Malraux Media Library in Sète

Sète Agglopôle as part of its competence “Construction, development, maintenance and management of cultural and sports equipment” has a network of media libraries spread over three sites: mediatheques F. Mitterrand and A. Malraux located in Sète, and the Montaigne Media Library in Frontignan. The A. Malraux media library is a community-interest facility located in the Thau district of Sète, a priority area under the city’s politics. It accommodates more than 70,000 people a year (80 % living in the neighbourhood) and has 2,300 registered. Considered to be a major equipment for public reading, the media library provides access to documentary resources and promotes the democratisation of culture and information for the benefit of audiences far removed from culture, illiteracy or illiteracy, it helps to bridge the digital divide and enables residents to access high-quality artistic practices. The equipment allows to set up different cultural operations with the help of associative and/or institutional partners such as the Local Mission of Insersion of the Youth of the Thau Basin, the promotion of artistic practice through initiation, social and intergenerational mix. The premises no longer respond to the new practices developed by the media library. It is necessary to rethink the functional layout by modifying the working and reception areas for the public.
