The ATOP project (Therapeutic Antibody and Chronic Pain Post-Opertoires) is a collaborative R&D project involving an academic partner INSERM (Institut des Neurosciences de Montpellier) and an industrial partner (the company BIODOL THERAPEUTICS (PME d’Occitanie — Dpt 34). Current treatments for chronic pain are ineffective (less than 50 % of patients achieve a reduction of at least 30 % of their pain) or cause side effects limiting their use, especially due to the lack of knowledge of the mechanisms of pathogenesis In this area, the Institut des Neurosciences de Montpellier has made a major discovery by identifying the FLT3 target as a control element for the onset and maintenance of neuropathic pain. The project aims to confirm the role of the FLT3 receptor, to develop and validate therapeutic antibodies, an effective prototype of which has already been identified, with a view to enhancing it with a major pharmaceutical industry.
