The fight against global warming and the scarcity of energy sources lead to renewed interest in renewable energies, including biofuels. New production pathways for second generation (2G) biofuels using lignocellulosic biomass have developed. After refining the obtained biofuels have specifications similar to those of conventional fuels but still contain oxygenates that can lead to adverse consequences.The objective of the BIOENGINE project is to actively participate in the search for scientific solutions to improve energy efficiency with a view to reducing energy losses in energy systems. This includes working on processes that would allow the removal of oxygenates from hydrocarbons, while improving engine efficiency and respecting regulatory limits on gas emissions.
