As the organising authority of the drinking water service, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole is pursuing a process of regaining the quality of raw water exploited by the catchments of Villeneuve Les Maguelone (captures of Flès). It carries out actions aimed at reducing polluting pressures linked to the use of plant protection products on agricultural and non-agricultural areas (public and private areas) at the level of the catchment area. The tool that can be mobilised to support communities in eliminating the use of these products is the Plan for the Improvement of Phytosanitary and Horticoles Practices (PAPPH). It is a decision-support tool developed by a specialised design office, based on a comprehensive diagnosis of public space management practices, and leading to recommendations tailored to each community. The aim of this plan is to phase out the use of pesticides in public spaces, to optimise the inputs of fertilisers and to reduce the volumes of water used for watering green areas. Ten municipalities involved have partnered with the metropolis to conduct a PAPPH on their public spaces.
