DOM DUR MAT — COLLABORATIVE PROJECT

Under the climatic conditions of our regions (solar irradiation and high temperature, high hygrometry, high salinity rate, presence of micro-organisms), materials undergo accelerated degradation. To predict the durability of materials, manufacturers use standards based on accelerated aging that are not valid in the West Indies, where climatic conditions are 80 % more severe than those encountered in a Mediterranean climate and 40 % more severe than those encountered in the subtropical zone (e.g. Florida). The aim of this project is to develop accelerated ageing protocols adapted to our climatic conditions and to develop an innovative technique for flash characterisation of ageing; The study focuses on polymer materials because they are the most abundant materials (paintings, carpentry, floor coverings, furniture, lighting, plumbing, etc.) and also more vulnerable to our aggressive climate.
