The Vernou factory (1966) was fed from a catchment on the Grande Rivière in Goyave. The feed system has been authorised since 2013, with a rated capacity of 600 m³/h. The die consists of coagulation-floculation, mud bed settling (Pulsator), sand filtration of final disinfection. The treated water is sent to a single head tank (2 500 m³) which supplies the areas served by the Vernou feeder: height of Petit-Bourg and Baie-Mahault (outside the village, Jarry and Moudong), an estimated population of between 25 and 30,000 inhabitants. The factory also supplies the Lamentin as a backup. Rehabilitation works at the end of the feeder Vernou are planned by the SIAEAG in order to rescue the feeder of Belle Eau Gifteau and/or that of Moustique. The sector was commissioned in 1966. The water intake and sand filter floors were renewed in 1999/2000. The sector presents advanced degradation of structures (civil engineering) and equipment. A complete structural and process audit defines the work needed to extend the life of the plant by about 20 years.
