Le Prêcheur is a rural commune stretching on nearly 2,992 hectares on the western flank of Mountain Pelee, whose economy is oriented towards agriculture and fishing, is experiencing many economic difficulties. To overcome this fragile economic problem, CAP Nord in partnership with the city of Prêcheur is trying to diversify the economy of the municipality and focus on a tourist dynamic. The tourist strategy of the municipality of Prêcheur has been drawn up and has made it possible to define actions to be put in place in order to achieve the positioning of an “ecotourism” city. Projects are already part of this dynamic, such as the creation of the decarbonised area of the city of Prêcheur, the marine reserve or the Domaine Martiniquais de l’Experimentation (DOME). In the dynamics of eco-touristic destination, the renovation of the Martineaud hiking trail is a particular issue. In the long term, the development of the hiking trail will promote a complete and diversified offer of hiking in the commune with possible links with the circuit of the waterfall of the Anse-Couleuvre, Prêcheur — Grand-Rivière and the Aileron. The synergy of this project with the DOME has already been thought out since an area for the bivouac will be installed.
