Regalor is a unifying research and development project led by the University of Lorraine which aims to establish the feasibility of exploiting a low-carbon gas resource, Coal Gas, and its transposability at European level. This approach will be achieved through the definition and establishment, in Lorraine, of a generic European platform to study the use of the basement for energy purposes. To this end REGALOR is designed to take into account both geological, energy, economic, ecological, social and legal aspects, with two main targets: 1. To be able to quantify a natural gas resource from environmentally sound technologies with zero to very low impact on the environment, preventing any hydraulic fracturing of the ecosystem, 2. To be able to assess the possibilities of exploiting this resource from the establishment of a sustainable and responsible eco-industry. The combination of these two objectives is an effective and realistic lever to engage very quickly in a comprehensive green transition approach in line with Europe’s energy and climate policy and aimed at securing Europe in a sustainable renewable energy environment.
