New treatment for type 1 diabetic patients using functional insulin therapy (IF) via personalised digital support (MYFIT tool) and a telemedicine platform.

Diabetes is a chronic disease with high morbidity. Uncontrolled diabetes has serious health consequences, having an impact on countries’ economies. In type 1 diabetics (DT1), intensified insulin therapy is the reference treatment that achieves a significant reduction in long-term complications. The empowerment of patients in the self-management of the disease and their close follow-up are two key approaches. The concept of functional insulinotherapy (IF) allows the patient to be empowered in the self-management of the disease with better glycemic control, reduced hospitalisations and a better quality of life. The practice of FI requires an apprenticeship currently carried out during hospital stays, requiring the investment of the time of healthcare professionals and generating health expenditure. This treatment cannot be offered to all DT1 patients causing inequalities in access to care. The possibility of having a new technology that facilitates patient monitoring DT1 is a necessary and innovative approach. We propose to develop a remote FI learning tool “MYFIT” for the patient DT1 with the aim of integrating it into the care journey through teleconsultation and telemonitoring. The project aims to network healthcare professionals via a telemedicine platform with secure sharing of medical data.
