Guyana’s forest is the only primary, humid tropical forest in the European Union. It covers 96 % of the territory, i.e. a forest area equal to the total area in km² of Portugal. A quarter of this forest area is intended for production. It is worth noting the richness of this Guyana forest resource in that it has no less than 1 600 tree species (compared to 130 species in total in hexagonal France). The machines which will, at the end of the operation, constitute a new sawing line and which are the subject of this grant application are the following: A log saw: this is the first element of the sawing line. Also known as the head saw, the log saw can be cut along the length of logs of different thicknesses, with lengths ranging from 2 to 8 m. This log saw will allow BSG to convert logs of wood with a larger diameter (than those currently sawn) and increase production capacity from 16 000 m³ of logs to 23 000 m³ (an increase of 7.000 m³/year). A scaling machine: this is the second element of a sawing line. Also known as the pick-up saw, the latter allows the width of trays of different thicknesses from the head saw to be calibrated.
