1OS1-2016 — MONT-VENTOUX SUMMIT REHABILITATION PROGRAM PHASE 1: PRE-OPERATIONAL STUDIES

The Mont-Ventoux is an emblematic area for Provence and the alpine massif. More than 700,000 visitors come each year to discover or rediscover this mythical pass, whether on foot, by bike or by car. Tourism, concentrated on its sommital platform, has negative impacts on natural environments, landscapes and suffers from a quality of hospitality that is not commensurate with an international reputation. The summit must therefore be rehabilitated to: •Responding to the challenges of flow management; •To make this place a showcase of excellence in the territory, combining attendance management and high environmental and landscape quality; • Optimise the economic impact on the whole territory. The overall project consists of valuing the entire summit of Mont-Ventoux (summital tops and crests) by gradually putting in place permanent facilities for the reception of visitors while at the same time enhancing the qualities of the site (patrimony, landscapes) and allowing the preservation of today’s highly degraded natural environments. The challenge is also to support a reappropriation of the summit by the visitors by inventing new ways of discovering it to live an “experience” in front of the shows offered by this advanced sentinel of the Alps.
