The mountain ranges of the northern Alps play a major role in protecting the vital estates of large raptors (Barded Gypaet, Royal Eagle) and mountain galliforms (Tétras-Lyre, Alpine Lagoped). They are also home to a very large concentration of ski areas that can have an impact on the avifauna: fragmentation of territories, degradation of natural habitats, mortality by impact on cables, disturbance induced during key phases of the life cycle. In this context, the project carried out by the Vanoise National Park and its partners, Asters and the Observatory of the Galliformes de Montagne, aims to promote the environmental integration of the ski areas by reducing their impact on the endangered bird, preserving its natural habitat and restoring ecological continuity. The idea is to reconcile economic development with the preservation of biodiversity. The whole project, carried out in close consultation with local stakeholders and ski area managers, will allow the establishment of peace zones and the visualisation of cables for ski lifts. Various innovative means will be mobilised during the project to improve and evaluate the effectiveness of the schemes. The achievements of the project will be disseminated to all professionals and managers of natural areas of the French Alpine Arc. Important communication to the general public will accompany the realisation of the project.
