1st phase of the Loire bed rebalancing programme upstream of Nantes — operational studies (design)

This operation submitted by Voie Navigable de France is a prerequisite for a large programme of works and development of the Loire aval between Nantes and Montsoreau. This process consists of the collection and production of data that will feed into the study reports and regulatory authorisations to be produced. This operation is also made up of design/definition studies. An extensive programme of work is planned in 2020 with the general objective of restoring the natural habitats of the Loire and, in particular, reclaiming and restoring the alluvial wetlands of the Loire River and allowing a natural divagation of the Loire bed. The river bed is currently frozen, channeled and over-drawn as a result of old works (spikes, bank guards, dredging) that have in the past had the aim of improving navigation conditions. The works must allow for a morphological rebalancing of the river by reducing the slope of the bottom of the Loire bed and increasing the water lines. This operation is submitted under Action 13 and Specific Objective 3 of the ERDF Loire Basin OIP.
