Developing the Douglas sector: “mobilising the resource, enhancing the material and its use in the construction market”

The 21st century will certainly make a significant contribution to sustainable development as well as to wood construction. It will also mature an exceptional national resource: the Douglas. This emergent essence has characteristics that naturally orients it on the construction market. France is the leading producer of Douglas in Europe. More than 80 % of the resource is concentrated on the Massif Central. The development of a structured Douglas sector from upstream to downstream is a major challenge for the national economy, all the more so as the resource enters a phase of accelerated production. The volumes expected for the next 20 years represent a considerable challenge in terms of valuation, and an incredible opportunity for action: they confirm the absolute need for a coherent and ambitious action programme that can address the environmental and social-economic challenges of our territories. This is the meaning of France Douglas’ programme of actions for the period 2019-2021. This programme is structured around two main complementary objectives: 1. Fostering innovation by companies and stakeholders in the sector: emergence of new products. 2. Develop and trust the use of Douglas in the construction market.
