The VALO-SITES research project of the UMR Territories (2019-2021) is to develop and use transferable methods of observation and assessment of the socio-economic impacts of a policy for the management and valorisation of heritage natural sites. These methods are designed, tested and applied on the site of the Chain of Puys — Faille de Limagne partly labeled “Grand Site de France” and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other territories with distinctions (PNR, Grand Site de France, UNESCO list, biosphere reserve) are also associated with the research to ensure a greater generosity of the results: PNR of the great Causses, Cirque de Navacelles, Bien Causses and Cévennes, Dordogne Valley. The aim is to assess quantitative effects in monetary, employment or other variables and more qualitative effects (sectoral and/or territorial dynamics). The range of tasks includes: 1- sectoral studies in tourism and leisure, agriculture and agri-foodstuffs, with an opening to other territorial effects, 2- depending on the feasibility, evaluations of cash flows (flow method), relationships between sectors of activity (effects method) and comparative trends between territories (synthetic control method), 3- a reflection on the mechanisms necessary to be able to renew the evaluation.
