With a view to improving the ecological status of the Rhône Saône axis, particular attention is paid to wetlands which constitute priority habitats for conservation and restoration activities as described in axis 3 of the Rhône Saône POI programme. In this context, CEN Savoie wanted to restore 60 hectares of the Chautagne marsh, located in the alluvial plain of the Rhône north of Lake Bourget. This area has been identified as a priority in the strategy of the Rhone Sâone POI programme 2014-2020. Indeed, it has undergone a deep drying and a reduction in the accompanying table, following the virtual disappearance of floods in the Rhône and the establishment of a large network of drains for the exploitation of large silvicultural and agricultural areas.
