Co-operation with business blanks (Y2)

Southwest Finland’s economic structure is undergoing a transformation. Large companies have lost their importance in terms of employment and business drivers. SMEs represent the vast majority of the region’s business base and will continue to play a key role in creating new markets and jobs. The scarcity of resources due to structural changes in the business sector and the challenging economic situation is challenging the actors in the region to exploit the potential already existing in human beings, knowledge and existing structures more effectively in a new, innovative, partnership-based way. New, innovative and growth-oriented companies are of paramount importance for Southwest Finland’s business sector. However, the region currently lacks a clear and supported path to entrepreneurship for those who intend to become entrepreneurs. In accordance with the TP Y6 of the Regional Strategy Partnership Forum for Southwest Finland, the answer to the above challenges is the creation of a well-functioning provincial business service organisation and the development of primary counselling for companies. By collaborating, the business blanks project (Y2) creates, in accordance with the regional strategy, a new form of cooperation between regional business service organisations based on partnership, to which primary business advice in the sub-regions is linked. The collaborative model provides a clear, inspiring and supportive path towards entrepreneurship and makes the cross-sectoral excellence of business service providers accessible to all. This will increase the efficiency of the use of existing resources and significantly improve the availability and quality of the services provided. The model will be built, documented and implemented by the project promoters’ partners and will remain a permanent part of the provincial business service offering. The cooperation model ensures the creation of higher quality, multidisciplinary and growthable business candidates throughout the province, taking into account local needs and specificities, in accordance with the regional strategy (TP Y5) and supporting the region’s smart specialisation.Apart of the new approach, the project pilots new types of community-based workshops that prepare for entrepreneurship, focusing on the productisation and utilisation of own know-how as a business activity. The workshops emphasise practical and team work under the guidance of experts. The workshops are organised four times a year and the initial themes are the basics of entrepreneurship, business idea, customer orientation, sales & marketing, finance acquisition and company indicators. Teams of experts from different fields who have participated in the workshops and who are interested in entrepreneurship will be formed to prepare them towards setting up their own business. Team building focuses on defining the necessary, complementary skills and common, meaningful goal, creating a common approach and detailed objectives. Team-specific coaching and innovative, community-based methods are applied in implementation. This will ensure a sufficiently large and high-quality volume of multidisciplinary teams of skilled experts, resulting in more high-quality, more viable business blanks. In addition, the project will create and pilot a provincial idea bank to collect untapped ideas in interaction with universities and companies in the region. The idea bank will facilitate innovation cooperation between large and small enterprises, universities, municipalities and teams formed through the collaborative model. The idea bank offers teams the opportunity to capitalise on existing ideas for the creation of new businesses. By collaborating, the business blanks project (Y2) achieves its objectives in the following action packages kautta:Toimenpidekokonaisuus 1: Creation of a collaborative modelMeasure 2: Workshops Preparing for EntrepreneurshipMeasure 3: Formation of Entrepreneurship TeamsMeasure 4: Piloting the provincial idea bankMeasure 5: As a result of these measures, the Y2 project achieves the following concrete results:- Create a partnership-based cooperation model for regional business service organisations, providing a clear, supported path to entrepreneurship.- Organising series of six workshops preparing for entrepreneurship eight times, i.e. a total of 48 workshops involving a total of 750 entrepreneurs. — 50 multidisciplinary teams of experts from different fields with the aim of setting up a business will be formed of participants and other entrepreneurs.
