The main objective of the METSÄVUO project is to formulate and evaluate the alternative features of the forest leasing service based on long-term service contracts, which can be used to develop new network-based business that is suitable for Finnish private forestry. The project combines the development of forest asset management services to forest owners with the business perspective of the management company. During the project, the criteria for the forest leasing service will be specified, the legal, fiscal and contractual issues of forest leasing will be resolved, surveys will be conducted on the potential for demand and supply of new services, and the roles of the service network partners will be identified. In addition, the project assesses the international expansion of the forest lease concept. The project will apply an experimental development approach in which the proposed features of the service model will be subject to immediate feedback, alternative calculations and experimentation by a panel of service network participants. On the basis of these measures, the most feasible and acceptable service models will be selected for further examination. The project includes seven companies representing forestry services, forest planning and advisory, forestry investment and investment funds business. The business concepts outlined in the project will enable the consolidation and diversification of existing business activities and the creation of new business activities in the forest fund business, forest asset management services and timber procurement. The results of the project promote the development of corporate forestry and forest ownership and increase the professional management of forest assets. It is possible that the activity and efficiency of forest use, as well as the supply of wood, will also increase.
