The aim of the project is to create a concentration of SMEs requiring a good logistical location in the business areas of Kumpussaari and Siikaniemi by building a new bus link, especially for heavy-duty vehicles, directly on the motorway along the northern shore of Siikalahti. There is already a railway line and a deep harbour is operating in the area, so the logistical efficiency of the companies will be improved. This will enable co-ordination of different modes of transport, multimodal transport, logistics cooperation and sustainable transport. The project aims at several investments by SMEs in new premises in the region, as well as the use of underused premises as rented premises. This investment will create a significant number of new jobs in the region in growth-oriented companies, whose competitiveness will be improved through transport arrangements. The bus also provides an alternative route to the connection between the Archipelago City and the city’s main job and growth area Savilahti. At the same time, the urban structure in the area is defragmented. The project improves the City of Kuopio’s goals in terms of low carbon, as traffic flow improves. The project will further improve road safety in a wide area, while reducing journeys and significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions from vehicle traffic, in particular heavy transport.
