The main objective of the Polish Biocentre project is to promote and generate investments focused on biorefining activities in the biocenter’s area of operation of the municipality of Poland. The project will identify the synergy benefits of different activities (investments/enterprises) and will be taken into account from spatial planning onwards. Synergies can improve the security of production and competitiveness of the various activities. The results of the Biokeskus project can also be utilised elsewhere in the Kainuu region. With Biocenter, the goal is to create investments and jobs and to create profitable local processing activities around bioproducts. Increasing the rate of processing of bio-materials locally makes it possible to strengthen the regional economy. The investments to be made have the objective of supporting local agriculture and forestry and generating new revenue streams in the region. The basis of the biocenter’s project is the preparation of the biocentre’s regional plan and the heating plant plan. The regional plan takes into account the possible activities that may enter the area and how this activity is interlinked from the point of view of the use of the area’s inputs and secondary streams, as well as the production and use of energy. The thermal centre plan is also an integral part of the project. This section takes into account the planned energy bores and forms of energy production in the area. The project will identify entrepreneurs implementing investments as well as related stakeholders/partners who contribute to the realisation of investments in the region. The project actively promotes business-led investment processes. The investment processes make use of the plans already made (e.g. the Polish biocenter survey and the biogas survey of agricultural holdings). The results of the project can be utilised elsewhere in the Kainuu region. Information is transferred, for example, through project cooperation. These cooperation projects include the Growth Kainuu Project Project (Kainuu Etu) and the Forestry and Renewable Energy Growth Programme (Kainuu Etu, Metsäkeskus, University of Oulu/University of Oulu). The results of the project are:- the biocenter’s area has been zoned on the basis of a regional plan (the municipality is responsible for planning planning and planning work from the municipality).- The construction of the area infrastructure has been started during the project.- Investment processes have been promoted and investments started in the biocenter area.
