Side streams such as shells, needles, stumps and roots generated by the extraction of raw material from forests contain a wealth of valuable ingredients that would make sense to be used for higher processing. In order to promote sustainable development and low carbon, the use of renewable resources is desirable instead of petroleum-based synthetic compounds. Taking into account the needs of companies, the project will create tailor-made analytical or testing methods using their testing and product development to determine the composition and bioactivity of the active substances contained in the raw materials. The measures aim at a more diversified use of forest raw materials for the development of new products. The development measures target, for example, side streams of forest biomass such as shells and needles. The measures aim at creating a low-threshold product development platform to support the product development of SMEs, with the aim of using previously unused parts of forest biomass in new products, contributing to low carbon.
