In 2025, Finland wants to see Finland as a leader in education, skills and modern learning. As part of this goal, education exports in Finland have been actively developed into a new business since 2010, when the Government published a national education export strategy. In international markets, education exports are part of established service exports. Finland is at an early stage of education exports. In Joensuu and North Karelia, the whole of education, learning environments and digitalisation of learning has not previously been systematically developed into a business cluster. The project will make visible and develop a business cluster related to education, learning environments and digitalisation of learning, create a path of internationalisation for the cluster and pilot training exports with the aim of increasing the turnover and profitability of educational exporters and organisations providing export support services. The project will make visible the business cluster related to training, learning environments and digitalisation of learning in Joensuu and North Karelia; • supports and develops cooperation between public education actors, industry companies and industry-related events and networks that create new business activities; • create new educational export innovations, digital solutions, educational service environments and digitalisation of learning; •develop value chains for the export of educational know-how and help the cluster to network both nationally and internationally; •develop the sales, marketing and financial know-how needed by cluster companies; •produce and channel market, target and evaluation information needed for international sales and marketing work for the cluster’s operators; •develop, strengthen and support the path of internationalisation and competitiveness of potential educational export actors in North Karelia in international markets; •create an open innovation environment conducive to the development and growth of the cluster. For the continuous development and growth of the cluster, the project will create an operating model and cluster-shaped ecosystem for inbound and international sales and marketing. To support business growth and the emergence of new business activities, Joensuu Science Park’s incubator and accelerator activities will be strengthened by increasing innovation and development platform skills related to education, learning environments and digitalisation of learning. Joensuu’s development platform will build a close path to the networks and opportunities of Team Finland and Future Learning Finland.
