Strengthening the conditions for the development of the Asemanse region of Kuopio as a transport hub

The project is based on the funding of the previous programming period of the Northern Savo Association’s Structural Funds, which has made it possible to develop the Kuopio Travel Centre area. Since then, the development of the area has progressed as planned towards building premises and the private sector developer will start building the area in May 2018. The immediate project includes the area of the bus station, the railway area, the railway station area and the central urban area. The Kuopio station area is growing in a new regional and nationally important service package, which will provide, in addition to transport and passenger services, housing, office, business and service facilities, forming sub-areas:- a meeting place for public and public transport and passenger services. Kuopio is a nationwide growth centre; the development and modernisation of the national transport hub strengthens the vitality of the region and the region, including housing, office, business and service facilities — the entrance to Kuopio — a complement to the services of the core centre and a continuation of the extensive development of the city centre. The project has effects on attraction, competitiveness and image. Asemansemaa is a hub for local, provincial and national transport modes, a place where transport is exchanged between modes of transport and through which residents, business and innovation actors, tourists, students, event visitors and users of various leisure services move continuously. The aim of the project is to support the accessibility and visibility of companies, tourist destinations and events and various services, and to increase the attractiveness, use and accessibility of sustainable forms of transport (public and public transport, walking, cycling) in the urban area of Kuopio. The project is also related to the trans-European accessibility of the TEN-T comprehensive network. In addition, the project will improve the conditions for business success in the region and create new business opportunities for companies as they target an evolving transport hub. The project will implement a smooth connection to the tunnel underneath the line by modifying/modifying an existing tunnel and implementing a new information system in the area. This is a modification of an existing station tunnel that connects areas and connecting traffic. The tunnel has a significant impact on the accessibility of public and public transport and facilitates the transition from one mode of transport to another and further to different destinations, tourist centres and various services and events. Information from the information system smoothly guides people moving in the area and creates new service opportunities and increases the visibility of the services. Other measures will allow the implementation of electric bus charging infrastructure in the area and improve safety in the area.
