Cornerstones for VEBIC Innovation Platform (VIP)

Vaasa Energy Business Innovation Centre (VEBIC) is a new research and innovation platform hosted by the University of Vaasa. It brings together research and business know-how and aims to meet global needs for efficient energy production, energy business and sustainable social development.‘Cornerstones for VEBIC Innovation Platform (VIP)’, as its name suggests, focuses on creating a new, open innovation platform for VEBIC. The innovation platform is designed to be built on four pillars (Cornerstones). These are: (1) national and international research cooperation (knowledge dimension of innovation platform), (2) strategic cooperation with SME networks (commercial dimension of innovation platform), (3) broad-based social dimension of innovation platform and 4) policy dimension of innovation platform.VIP project is implemented between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2020 and consists of a total of five work packages. The four pillars of VEBIC’s innovation platform each form one of the project’s work packages. In addition, the project includes a work package for the development of the “impact assessment toolbox” to assess the results and effectiveness of the VEBIC innovation platform. The actual target groups of the VIP project include: 1) universities and universities of applied sciences in the region, 2) regional growth-oriented SMEs, 3) policy makers and officials of cities, municipalities and other public organisations and as an indirect target group 4) Students, associations, groups of citizens and individual citizens interested in making their own voluntary contribution to VEBIC’s innovation platform and its development. The concrete measures of the project are planned to be implemented primarily in the form of road map work. The development of road maps is well suited to the development of VEBIC’s new and open innovation platform. It offers representatives of various stakeholders, including those who have no previous experience in such projects, the opportunity to actively participate and influence. The project’s main results:1)Preparation of the four roadmaps to guide the development of the VEBIC Open Innovation Platform2)Developing and linking the knowledge point related to battery technology modelling into the ‘Batteries from Finland’ activation package of Business Finland (BF)3)New research openings and projects, of which the first H2020 programme ‘CE-NMBP-25-2019 — Photocatalytic Synthesis’4Developing and piloting a series of ‘Working together toward clean energy’ for SMEs, researchers and other stakeholders5)Preparation of new business-driven BF projects6)The ‘VEBIC Energy Research Day’ event for the ‘general public’ in the province7)Energy event series for young people (16-19)8)New ‘Energy and sustainable development’ courses for upper secondary schools9. energy transformation information and service packages for policy makers10)impact assessment toolbox to assess the performance and effectiveness ofVEBIC’s operations
