6Time: The objective of the City Logistics New Solutions project is 1) to meet companies’ needs in order to organise transport as cost-effectively and sustainably as possible by piloting so-called “last mile light and/or autonomous logistics solutions”. The aim is also (2) to assess the business opportunities of different pilots and to contribute to the emergence of new service packages, and (3) to find new operating models for traditional cooperation between different actors. The development of light distribution logistics in urban areas supports cities’ climate strategies, reduces the number of cars moving in the area and improves the safety and comfort of people in urban centres. 6Time: The New Solutions for City Logistics project, together with logistics industry operators, pilots new kinds of distribution solutions and service packages in the implementation of the so-called last kilometre. In particular, distribution solutions pilot light distribution solutions, autonomous distribution traffic and local distribution solutions. New types of service packages optimise delivery implementation, create conditions for joint pilots and rapid experimentation between different actors, and facilitate companies to use open interfaces and create new service packages. The project produces practical experiences and creates business on the themes of urban logistics: 1) the operating conditions and functionality of shared local distribution stations, 2) new types of light distribution equipment and service models, and 3) the impact of autonomous distribution solutions on last mile distribution logistics. As a result of the project, new business opportunities will be created not only in the logistics sector, but also in the IT sector and the retail sector. At the same time, the project will create better conditions for competitive tendering in the logistics sector. The project will create conditions for new types of low-carbon business models, thus optimising transport needs more effectively, increasing the environmental sustainability of logistics. New light distribution solutions and digitalisation in City Logistics enable new business opportunities and services locally, thus increasing financial sustainability. Experiments using new technologies and openness of information create conditions for a more equal logistics sector. Co-operation between different actors in the project also promotes the participation of women in the male-dominated logistics sector. 6Time: The Project Consortium on New Solutions in City Logistics consists of the City of Turku (main applicant), Forum Virium Helsinki Oy, Turku University of Applied Sciences Ltd, the Association of Southwest Finland/Valonia and Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
