HYTELI — Innovation Platforms for Wellbeing, Healthcare and Physical Activity

CEMIS (Centre for Measurement and Information Systems) is a contract-based research and training centre for measurement and information systems established in 2010. The partners include the University of Oulu’s Kajaani Research Unit (MITY), Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK), the Technology Research Centre of VTT MIKES, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences in Vuokatti and the Kajaani Unit of CSC — Science Information Technology Ltd. CEMIS activities will be developed mainly within the CEMIS Joint Development Programme, for which CEMIS actors have prepared development project plans for 2019-2020. Under CEMIS 2019-2020, CEMIS is seeking funding for five parallel two-year projects. The first project aims to develop measurement solutions for Kainuu bio-, mining and process industries and environmental monitoring (INNOBIO). The second project will develop small-scale (miniatyrised) measuring devices to exploit existing technology (MiniMe). The aim of the third project is to strengthen the competitiveness of Kainuu-based companies by developing KAMK’s know-how and training in industrial running solutions and by providing companies with this competence during the project (vibrant). The fourth project aims to develop innovation environments in well-being, health care and physical activity, and to increase international technology know-how and competitiveness in these areas in Kainuu (HYTELI). The fifth project will develop and pilot an operating model that accelerates the growth of the Kainuu-based technology business for start-up technology companies (BUZTECH). The objective of the CEMIS 2019-2020 development programme is to increase the international, national and corporate financing of operators to EUR 3 M each over the period 2019-2020 (together EUR 9 M). The five joint projects of the Programme will develop at least 15 new technologies, of which at least four technologies will be commercialised, and will lead to the creation of at least four new companies. In addition, at least four new service or product blanks will be developed. The aim of the publications is to continue active activities so that both scientific and professional publications will be published over two years. Of these, the development programme projects account for 5-10 scientific publications and 4-9 professional publications. There are at least 46 co-operative companies in projects. At least five new RDI jobs will be created through the projects.HYTELI — Innovation Platforms for Wellbeing, Healthcare and Physical Activity — the aim of the project is to develop technologically advanced innovation platforms and environments and to increase their international level technology expertise and competitiveness in Kainuu. The starting point of the project is to utilise the interdisciplinary competence base of the regional CEMIS consortium in the themes or destinations that are important for the region’s livelihoods, such as preventive healthcare (health technology, nutrition health, smart home care) and Vuokatti’s top sports environment and sports tourism. The themes are also essential for the development of Kainuu’s competence in measuring technology, for raising the international RDI level and competitiveness, for the development of well-being and tourism industries, but also for national and international significance. By developing innovation platforms and environments, technology capabilities and knowledge bases can be developed to respond quickly to the needs of the business field, thereby increasing the service business and creating new jobs. As a result, advanced innovation platforms will be utilised both through the commercialisation of innovations (e.g. proof-of-Conceptit) and by developing service business in innovation environments in cooperation with companies and other stakeholders, as well as by investing in high-quality and comparable measurement results. The project includes significant and high-quality new openings and expertise at international level, such as the malnutrition of the elderly and the opening of the food supplement — the use of side streams from the wood industry to promote health and well-being — which is at best of great economic importance for Kainuu. The project also aims to co-operate with the SOTE field, for which an interdisciplinary project consortium can produce future solutions. Smart home care and state-of-the-art sports testing applications are using data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning as new methods, and the moment of taking over them is just the right time in Kainuu. The project will also take advantage of the unprecedented interest of the international and Asian winter sports community towards Vuokatti, and further rounds will be added to it. The project’s mission packages are: TP1 Health Technology Innovation Platforms: a) Nutrition health of the ageing population (including effluent of wood material)
