i9 Nine Elements of Innovation

The renewal of enterprises and their ability to innovate are key to the development of the vitality and well-being of the regions. In particular, the digital transformation, which shapes the business environment in a new order, puts pressure on renewal: the principles and practices of value creation are changing, traditional industry boundaries become blurred and new players are entering the market. The impacts extend to companies regardless of their size, location and industry. In order to renew their business environment, Satakunta companies need a business development environment that provides ignition to accelerate innovation. It is necessary to create inclusive innovation and development platforms as well as operating models and networks that encourage greater interaction, experimentation with new methods of innovation and long-term development of innovation capacity. The aim of the project is to develop the innovation environment and infrastructure of 100 municipalities, as well as the innovative capacity of companies. Open development measures strengthen innovation activity independently of industry and technology. The project provides tools for the development of technological and operational innovation capacities and networks. The project focuses on themes that create competitive advantage in strategically relevant business areas and support Satakunta’s smart specialisation objectives. In the smart specialisation framework, the project measures identify areas that can contribute to the development of the region’s innovation potential. Based on the analyses, groups of enterprises will be formed around the identified development themes, with which measures will be launched to develop innovation capacity. Select suitable development and innovation methods. Preparing and formulating thematic concepts and launching experiments to develop the technological and operational innovation capacity and networks of the target group of the project. Concrete measures include 1.) open innovation and networking events at international level, highlighting topical themes and opportunities and encouraging actors in the region to engage in experiments to develop innovation capacity and networks; 2.) Trials of open innovation methods to develop the innovation capacity and culture of enterprises, such as innovation competitions, accelerators and hackathons; 3.) Collaborative models aimed at reaching the resources of the contractor to increase the attractiveness of the region, such as the VisitINDUSTRY concept, where companies and industrial parks in the region present their activities so that graduates and other interested target groups can see what opportunities companies can offer; 4.) To familiarise yourself with the latest innovation management development methods and to explore the possibilities for their application. As a result of the project, the operating environment of Satakunta enterprises as well as services and networks that accelerate innovation activities will develop. Business models and networks to develop innovation capacity, events developing RDI partnerships and new innovation methods are available for companies.
