Commercialising forest-based protein — Commercialising protein based on the secondary stream of the process industry

The Single Cell Protein (SCP) has been developed in previous projects with Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic. SCP is suitable as a protein source for the marine food industry and can be grown with waste from the pulp industry. SCP manufacturing has been tried with the use of pulp mill waste in demo spectrum and the results in fish food tests have been encouraging. According to preliminary technical economic studies, the EU is well placed in financial terms. As the value chain has not yet been implemented, there are certain uncertainties, such as the risks and awareness of donors as an alternative source of fish food. These factors are obstacles to the productisation of SCP.-Process cost-effectiveness-Minimising the risks of investors-Increasing the knowledge ofKemin Digipolis Oy, the project develops logistically cost-effective ways of using management fishing as part of the composition of fish food. The direct beneficiaries of the project are management fishers and fish processors, as well as, indirectly, transport companies and industrial production facilities.
