Arctic Sea — Coastal Services Development Project

A large number of coastal tourism organisations have already shown their interest in developing coastal cooperation on the Arctic Sea theme. The opinions attached have already been received by the application stage from Oulu, Raahe, Kokkola, Pietarsaari, Kemi and Vaasa. In addition, discussions are also held with Liminka, Ii, Tornio and Hailuoto. The applicant’s assessment is that these parties also have an interest in cooperating on the theme of the development of the Arctic Sea. The novelty of the project is that a large number of coastal areas have been committed to promoting cooperation on the Arctic Sea theme. The project will create a first-stage capability, including the identification of pull factors above the international threshold, the identification of basic products and the identification of competitive advantages, the identification of synergies between coastal operators and a proposal for further measures in terms of development and marketing. The aim is to create the conditions during the project for the implementation of the solar route-type destination information and productisation in the Bothnian Bay region, including the readiness to expand further to Swedish destinations. The main objective of the project is to promote the growth and internationalisation of services related to the sea and coast, utilising the local strengths, opportunities and natural Arctic elements of the Bothnian Sea coastal area in cooperation with coastal municipalities’ tourism operators and other partners. The special focus of the project is to improve the visibility and accessibility of the Bothnian Sea region, to diversify and improve the availability of maritime and coastal services, and to improve the attractiveness of the region through the Arctic Sea theme as part of Visit Finland’s archipelago and coastal major region cooperation. The aim of the project is to make effective use of new knowledge, technology and know-how and, on the basis of them, to develop the region towards year-round and attractiveness beyond the international threshold. The project will build capacity for coastal Arctic marine branding and international marketing operations. Once the attraction factors above the threshold have been identified and the network of coastal operators has reached an acceptable level, it is possible to link the Arctic Sea theme to Visit Finland’s major regional cooperation and to ressource the internationalisation programme. The main measures of the project are related to the development of the attractiveness of the area, the accessibility of the operating environment and the development of maritime coastal tourism services through cooperation between coastal operators. Measures include pre-studies, studies, development of Master Plan data acquisition, its refining, communication and development of the operating environment of companies related to the Arctic Sea. As a result of the project, the region’s attractiveness will increase, visibility will be improved, the visibility will be improved, the area’s accessibility will be improved and new business activities and new coastal service products will be created as a result of coastal cooperation. The project has resulted in the acquisition of new knowledge and knowledge, as well as the necessary pilots, studies and studies, as well as the identification of attraction factors, actors and development sites relevant to the Arctic Sea theme in the Bothnian Sea. As a result of the project, the quality of knowledge and services has improved and new practices have been introduced in investment management, the use of smart technologies and digital services. With this project, the entire Northern Ostrobothnia tourist area will be complemented by a significant additional element of international attraction, the Arctic Sea and the coastline. Together with the mountains (Ruka and Syöte) and citynature areas (Oulu, surrounding areas and Rokua), the maritime Arctic coast forms an entity that, with its diversity, offers a genuine competitive advantage to the whole region.
