Finnish companies that make health solutions (products or services) face a challenge. While the key sales tool in other sectors is often a customer reference, the health sector typically requires more. In particular, in the case of medical devices and supplies, the manufacturer must demonstrate that the regulatory requirements and laws set for the solution are met. This evidence requires controlled testing of the solution by scientifically valid means. In the development of well-being solutions, stricter regulatory requirements also play an important role, and the development work done with professionals in the field is considered a strong sign of the quality of the solution. The testing and co-development of health solutions is typically carried out by organisations providing health services or training health professionals — on their test platforms. There are two main problems with testing platforms in the field of health in Finland. First, companies that develop health solutions do not know what test platform services are available (accessibility problem). Secondly, testing is rarely the basic activity of organisations providing testbed services — patient care, education and research (a structural problem of testbed operations). This project will provide a partial solution to these two problems (accessibility and structural problem) through an intermediary platform. The Intermediary Platform brings together health testbeds (94) in Southwest Finland into a single entity and seeks the most suitable test platform services for companies’ needs. This is a clear improvement in the current situation, where there is considerable time for businesses to find suitable services, which slows down product development and the emergence of new solutions on the market. It also often happens that the right test platform service does not exist as such, but requires a new combination of different services. The intermediary platform carries out this work on behalf of the company: the best possible solution for testing needs is sought. The Intermediary Platform also responds to the needs of organisations providing test platform services. The Intermediary Platform is a means of developing the maturity of services, thus providing higher quality test platform services and ultimately higher quality health solutions. Improving the quality of services and developing maturity are also seen as basic conditions for the (potential) future commercialisation of test platform services. In this project, the activities of the intermediary platform will be tested at the Hospital District of Southwest Finland and Turku University of Applied Sciences.
