According to Nurmes City’s strategy “Nurmes direction” in 2018-2021, Nurmes is looking for vitality through growth. The most important single issue in this development line is the determined implementation of the Green Industrial Area. The most important investments in the green industrial area in the bioeconomy district are the biodiesel factory 38 MEUR, the small log saw 32 MEUR and the coal and tannin plant 8 MEUR. This project will contribute to the intelligence and low-carbon character of these three industrial investments. In addition, a HP power plant (approximately EUR 8 million) can also be built in the block, providing the heat from the drying plants needed by the sawmill. This power plant is also a company of its own. In this way, this project will serve a total of four companies with a total investment value of EUR 86 million. Business-to-business industrial symbiosis (inputs/outputs) contributes to resource wisdom and thus the low-carbon nature of the region’s activities. The common structure aims at low carbon and resource wisdom in the green industry. The main common activities are:-common storm water pools (timing of wood dust and use of water for irrigation)-preparation and design of a joint refuelling and charging station for the gas and electricity of machinery and cars (low carbon content)-The continuation of the biokatu street for the East side of block 34, which allows plot work to begin in the block (resource wisdom for earth moving work: joint Wi-Fi (smart street) and smart lighting (smart street) mill conveyors (eco-efficient local transport) for the transport of chewing and wood chips from sawmill to biodiesel factory and coal and tannin plant.-Intensification of the use of industrial track- raw material handling for the biocarbon company cluster will also improve the functionality and traffic safety of Kantatie 75 and Pitkämäentie by building a turning lane for the connection (main direction channelling) effects:- reduction of transport emissions- reduction of the transfer of movable material to water bodies- improved internal logistics and hence profitability- improvement of road safety
