Carbon neutral business park (CNPB)

The most important decisions taken by the municipality in the prevention of climate change are the planning of construction, planning and planning of traffic. It is difficult for SMEs to implement emission reductions because they focus strictly on their core activities and energy issues are not perceived as important, even though they would enable the company to improve its profitability. The city of Imatra has identified the needs of new growth companies. The aim is to design and build a carbon-neutral business park where the energy (heat and cooling) of buildings is mainly produced locally using renewable energy sources (solar and wind) and geothermal energy (heat pumps). At the same time, solutions for the storage of heat and electricity will be explored. A dedicated heat and power distribution network (micro-grid) will be built in the area, as well as capacity for two-way heat and electricity trade. The company park will be located in the immediate vicinity of transport connections. Low-emission transport will be made possible by providing a scalable charging infrastructure for electric cars in line with evolving needs for businesses and workers in the region. Charging solutions are designed in such a way that smart grid and demand response solutions are possible. The buildings located in the business park will be implemented in such a way that the use of renewable energy sources is optimally possible (structural solutions, directions, etc.). Building automation solutions take into account intelligent and predictive regulation of conditions and, for example, real-time telecommunications connections for the needs of electricity demand response. These energy-efficient solutions can achieve low-cost and uninterrupted energy for companies located in the business park and create a competitive operating environment for companies located in the business park. As a result of the new urban planning, SMEs can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80 %, significantly reduce the operating costs of buildings (electricity, heat), facilitate the transport of products and provide workers with good working conditions. The project is carried out in cooperation with the University of LUT and utilises the public-Private partnership for energy efficiency improvements and their financing — the results of the project (ERDF A74128). The 2021 amendment application is due to the organisational changes of the project promoters (Mitra Imatran Rakennuttaja Oy’s division on 1 January 2021 and the change of business name of Imatran Seudun Enterprisetila Oy on 1 January 2021). The changes will have no impact on the project plan, the measures of the project, nor the cost estimate and funding of the project.
