LTKT2.0 — Lapland’s circular industrial economy 2.0 — Strengthening the circular economy in Lapland

The aim of Lapland’s circular industrial economy 2.0 project is to strengthen the regional competitiveness of the industrial circular economy in Lapland. The project is based on systematic development work carried out in Lapland in the 2010s, with which the circular industrial economy has become a leading area of expertise in Lapland and an important part of Lapland’s smart specialisation strategy. Founded in 2017 in Kemi, the Circular Economy Centre has attracted broad national and international interest. The project’s measures create the conditions for new circular economy investments and business models using the circular economy. The project strengthens Lapland’s research, knowledge and innovation infrastructure, cooperation between industrial circular economy operators and networks. The main implementations of the project are Kemin Digipolis Oy, Lapland University of Applied Sciences and the Kemi-Tornionlaakso Association of Education and Training Municipalities in Lapland. The measures focus particularly on energy and material efficiency, the utilisation of the latest knowledge and know-how in the circular economy, and the development of new business. In the implementation of the project, the expertise, contacts and networks of the Circular Economy Centre will be utilised. The key result objective of the project is to help ensure and support the development of the expertise and competitiveness of the industrial circular economy in Lapland also in the 2020s. The project also provides a complementary pathway for strengthening cooperation in the circular economy in Lapland. As a result of the project, conditions and new business models will be created to bring the circular economy firmly into the operations of Lapland’s companies.
