360 Low Carbon Investments

Technological development may be more than ever invested in the development of technologies. In recent years, digitalisation has broken into all sectors while transforming industries. Artificial intelligence, virtualisation, robotisation, health instrumentation, biotechnology, mass digital platforms and energy technologies are good examples of technologies that have evolved dramatically. Universities’ RDI activities play a major role in the dissemination of new technologies, as SMEs do not always have the resources to invest in the latest equipment and software to develop and experiment with innovation. The main objective of the Low Carbon Investments project is to develop and support the leading strategies of Lappish SMEs, product development, the development of new products and services. The project develops demonstration and pilot environments for the development and commercialisation of products and services of Lappish SMEs. As a measure, this investment project will carry out investment studies and implement the equipment, software and deployment measures necessary for the creation of development environments. The content of the project’s investments consists of the development packages highlighted during the previous projects, as well as the views of the region’s needs. Themes of the project are Intelligent Low Carbon Construction, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twins in a Low Carbon Society, Energy-efficient Renewable Industry, Conditional Testing, Digital Experience Lab and Biolaboratory. The project’s measures will implement the following development environments per work package:-Intelligent low-carbon construction in the work package will create a development environment that supports low carbon, energy efficient and smart construction. enabling SMEs in the construction and ICT sector in the region to develop their low-carbon services.-Robotics, artificial intelligence and digital twins in a low-carbon society will result in the development environment of robotics, artificial intelligence and digital twins, which will improve the capacity to innovate for SMEs in low-carbon society and business-friendly solutions in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence and digital twins. the work package creates an innovation environment for Arctic testing and rapid experimentation at the Rantavitikka campus of Lapland. The Digital Experience Lab work package creates an experience-development environment in which experiences from different technologies, business processes, information systems, products and services are explored and developed.-The biolaboratory work package creates a biolaboratory for processing natural products & product development and utilising wood raw material, which is utilised in teaching, product development and project activities. The project will implement investments in several parallel research projects in which, with the help of the RDI and teaching environments of Lapland, the competitiveness and operating conditions of enterprises are developed and promoted. These projects support and promote digitalisation and decarbonisation. Investments in this investment project are planned to be used for the following projects, which are being applied simultaneously:-CoolBox — a project designed to implement a small-sized pilot building in the Low Carbon Demo Lapland River Basin Campus. Upon graduation, Low Carbon Demo will act as a research, development and innovation environment in both construction and ICT RDI and education activities.-Lapland Robotics — a project that explores robotics and digital twins. The research project utilises the development environments of 360 Low Carbon investments in the research of robotics and digital twins. Digitalisation of learning and RDI environments in Lapland — a project that aims to develop the teaching and RD activities of Lapland to meet the challenges posed by digitalisation, especially in the long distance Lapland. The project’s investments result in six development environments that look at the realisation of low carbon in a 360-point perspective. The development environments will serve Lapland’s know-how and the growth of work by combining different areas of expertise in a new way.
