Building Clusters, Ecosystem Collaboration and RIS3 Communication in South Savo

South Savo’s Smart Specialisation Strategy 2018-2021 has focused on the region’s natural strengths in the forest-food-water tip sectors (including the digitality of the leading sectors). The update of the smart specialisation strategy in 2021 will open up new opportunities in terms of the key areas to be promoted and the strengths chosen. Building Clusters, Ecosystem Collaboration and RIS3 Communication in South Savo aims to strengthen awareness of the South Savo region’s Smart Specialisation (RIS3= Research, and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation) 2021-2027. Improving the visibility and familiarity of the county’s S3 focal sectors will strengthen the transparency of the region’s know-how and opportunities, especially through electronic communications and cooperation networks. The project’s role in supporting South Savo’s livelihood-based ecosystems and cooperation is central, especially through clusters that are attached to the area. The Regional Council of Etelä-Savo is able to promote the formation of cluster activities in the region in concrete terms, as well as to support cluster operations and cooperation within the province, nationally and internationally. In particular, the cooperation networks utilise existing national and international networks, as well as the joint Smart Specialisation Strategy for Eastern and Northern Finland. One of the objectives of the project is also to ensure cooperation between different actors, networks and clusters in the South Savo region, as well as the accessibility of key players in the networks, for example in order to take advantage of the various funding opportunities of the European Union. As a result, the project will improve the visibility, know-how and marketing material related to the leading sectors of South Savo’s smart specialisation (e.g. aes-video material, strategy publication in Finnish and English). The project will strengthen cooperation networks in the region, especially between clusters and other ecosystem networks in the region, and improve the opportunities for operators in the region to use various financial instruments to promote their activities. At the heart of the clusters are enterprises that are among the top priorities of the region’s Smart Specialisation Strategy (2021-2027), which receive support from clusters to promote their business. During the project, the start of cluster activities in the region and the development of the region will be promoted in such a way that at the end of the project at least 3 new clusters will be attached to the South Savo region, which will make a strong contribution to the development of their respective themes. In addition, the project will create and produce result data for monitoring the effectiveness of South Savo’s Smart Specialisation Strategy, so that the effectiveness of operations can be monitored and evaluated.
