Future Loop — South Savo Foresight Project 2015-2017

The aim of the project is to support regional development with the help of foresight information, focusing on strategic choices and priorities highlighted in the regional programme work, as well as growth and restructuring sectors. The information produced in the project will also facilitate the identification of future potential growth points and new openings. The objective is to develop real-time monitoring of the state of the province and trends in change. The project also aims to increase impact on development work and to integrate future information more closely into decision-making and strategy work. During the project, regular foresight work will be defined in Etelä-Savo, the parties responsible for it and the channels for disseminating foresight information. The aim is to establish a provincial foresight network, in which the basic processes of foresight are permanent in the work of the operators. The aim is also to strengthen cooperation between Eastern and Northern Finland in anticipation and to maintain links with national foresight. The project will acquire, produce and process statistical and foresight data (surveillances, surveys, analyses, statistics...). Information will be collected on the development trends already implemented and will anticipate future developments by project actors and partly as a purchasing service. The work utilises global and national trends and signals, and discusses their significance in Southern Savo Province. The analyses and reviews carried out in the project will be communicated to the media in the region and will also be communicated outside the province. The aim is to find a real-time pathway for the analysed and aggregated data that best serves the users of the information. The information is shared in an interactive manner with different actors during debates, presentations and seminars. In addition, the information will be made available to everyone on the website maintained by the project. The information produced serves a wide range of actors in the region. The project continuously cooperates from network countries with provincial foresight actors, foresight actors in Eastern and Northern Finland and national foresight. Meetings and events are organised for operators in the region, as well as participating in video meetings and training sessions for guidance bodies nationwide. The actual target groups of the project are the authorities, business, municipalities, development and training organisations, as well as other parties involved in foresight activities and interested in regional development. In addition, the regional councils of Eastern and Northern Finland and national foresight actors act as partners in the project. The indirect target groups of the project are other users of foresight information, such as the media and citizens. The project produces statistical and foresight material to support planning and decision-making, resulting in a positive development of South Savo’s business and regional economy. The knowledge generated by the project can create opportunities for new openings and innovations. The project will also diversify the image conveyed from Etelä-Savo to the rest of Finland and internationally. The knowledge generated by the project can create opportunities for new openings and innovations. The project will strengthen the international dimension and comparability of regional development. During the project, an operating model will also be established for how the foresight work in South Savo will be organised at the end of the project.
